Gujarat Gram Panchayat Election 2021 : Gujarat State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday announced that elections to 10,318 gram panchayats in the state will be held on December 27, and the results will be announced on December 29. The notification announcing commencement of election process will be issued on December 5, while the last date for filing nominations is December 10, Varesh Sinha, State Election Commissioner.

The Gujarat State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday declared elections for 10,879 Gram panchayats, including division elections in villages and by-elections of other gram panchayats. The elections will be held on December 19 and the results will be declared on 21st December 2021.

Informing the media on Monday, Sanjay Prasad, the SEC commissioner said, “The notifications for the elections will be issued on November 29 for all the elections and the last day of filing nominations is December 4.

“Polling will be held on December 19 between 7 am and 6 pm in over 27,000 polling booths. Counting of votes will be held on December 21. Due to the very high number of wards, polling will be conducted using ballot boxes instead of EVMs. In all, we will be using over 54,000 ballot boxes for the elections,” said Prasad. He added that over 5,000 election officials, 1.5 lakh polling staff and over 58,000 policemen will be deployed. The gram panchayats polls are not fought on party symbols, and candidates need to contest in their personal capacity, with voters electing one sarpanch and a specified number of panchayat members.

Gram panchayat elections are not fought on party symbols. Each voter is required to cast two votes, one for Sarpanch’s post and another for electing panchayat member from his/her ward.

According to Sinha, the total number of registered voters for these polls is over 1.89 crore, including 90.82 lakh women. Polling will be held at 25,454 booths in 91,002 wards.

Ballot boxes will be used instead of EVMs, he said,\ adding, “We do not have enough EVMs, so we will use more than 61,000 ballot boxes. Online voting facility is also not available, however, we will provide NOTA (none of the above) option for the first time in panchayat elections in Gujarat.”

The State Election Commission, Gujarat was constituted in September 1993 under Article 243K of the Constitution of India. The State Election Commission has been entrusted with the task of conducting free, fair and impartial elections to the local bodies of the state.

The State Election Commission carries out activities related to the preparation of ward / election department as per the rules of local bodies, decision of boundaries and distribution of seats, preparation of voter list for local bodies like Gram Panchayat, Taluka and District Panchayat / Nagarpalika and Municipal. Jilla ,Taluka Panchayat,Nagarpalika Election 2021 Useful Module for Staff:Jilla ,Taluka Panchayat,Nagarpalika Election 2021 Useful Module for Staff :The State Election Commission (SEC) has declared the dates for the polling for the local bodies like Municipal Corporations, municipalities, the district and Tehsil Panchayats in Gujarat.

The local body elections in Gujarat, involving six municipal corporations, 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 231 taluka panchayats will be held in two phases, the State Election Commission (SEC) announced on Saturday. The terms of these seats had ended last year, but the elections were postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic. With Saturday's announcement, the model code of conduct (MCC) becomes effective in these constituencies.

The State Election Commission (SEC) has declared the dates for the polling for the local bodies like Municipal Corporations, municipalities, the district and Tehsil Panchayats in Gujarat.

According to the programme, polling for Municipal Corporations will take place on Sunday, February 21 from 7 am to 6 pm while that for municipalities and panchayats, polling will take place on February 28th from 7 am to 6 pm.
Counting for the Municipal Corporation polls will take place on February 23 while that for municipalities and panchayats will take place on March 2.

"After the latest electoral roll, we have 4.09 crore voters in the state. There will be 47,695 polling stations, out of which over 11 thousand are sensitive and over 6 thousand extremely sensitive, but these are not final figures and they are dynamic. The total areas for which the elections will be held will be 6,577 and total elected seats will be 9,049," said Sanjay Prasad, the State Election Commissioner."For these elections, more than 91,700 Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) will be utilised. The Voter Verification Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) won't be used in these elections, as the standing Committee constituted technical Committee had recommended that as the EVM are tamper-proof, the VVPAT are not required. So none of the state election Commissions are using them," added Prasad.
