The Bharatiya Janata Party has ruled Gujarat for the past 27 years and in the 2017 elections, the BJP won 99 seats in the 182-member Legislative Assembly. The Election Commission said that a total of 4 crore 90 lakh (4,90,89,765) voters have registered for the Gujarat assembly elections this time. This includes 2.5 crore (2,53,36,610) male voters and 2.37 crore (2,37,51,738) female voters. Apart from this, service electors, PWDs and first-time voters are included. The number of first-time voters is 4,61,494.

All the counting stations in the state have completed the necessary preparations. 182 Counting Observers, 182 Election Officers and 494 Assistant Election Officers will be on duty for the entire counting process. There will be an additional 78 Assistant Election Officers for the counting of votes. Besides this, 71 additional Assistant Election Officers have been assigned responsibility for the electronically transmitted postal ballot system. For this, all the counting staff have been appointed. The second randomization will also be completed today and the third randomization process will be done at 5:00 am before the counting of votes. A micro-observer, counting supervisor and counting assistant are assigned duty at each polling center table. Apart from this, two micro-observers will be placed in the counting hall. The entire counting process will be videographed.

Officials, observers, constables-officials, candidates and counting agents and counting agents of each candidate will be allowed to enter the counting stations. In the 2017 assembly elections, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won a total of 51 seats out of 93 seats and the Congress won 39 seats, while the independent candidates won three seats. In central Gujarat, the BJP got 37 seats, and the Congress won 22 seats. But in North Gujarat, the Congress got 17 seats, while the BJP won 14 seats. High voltage propaganda by various parties for the second phase of the election ended on Saturday evening, December 3. The first phase of voting for 89 seats in Saurashtra, Kutch and South Gujarat regions was held on December 1. The average turnout was 63.31 percent in the first phase. There are a total of 182 seats in the Gujarat assembly.
In the second phase, the remaining 93 seats will go to polls, for which 833 candidates from 61 political parties, including the BJP, Congress and new poll entrant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), are in the fray.
These candidates also include 285 independents, according to the state Chief Electoral Officer’s office.
