The central government on Wednesday decided to include migrant workers in its main health insurance scheme Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. The benefits of this health insurance will now be available to overseas workers in any state.

The National Health Authority (NHA) is responsible for enforcing AB-PMJAY. The NHA is currently contacting all states to identify those in need. The NHA will issue health insurance e-cards to overseas workers under the scheme.

AB-PMJAY is a cashless and paperless health insurance plan. It gives each family a cover of Rs 5 lakh for treatment and hospital expenses. Under this, so far 10.75 crore families i.e. 53 crore people have benefited. In this scheme, e-cards are issued which can be used anytime and anywhere.
